     The plant Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. (Bengali name- Wild ginger, Temu lawak) is a perennial herb of the Gingiberaceae family. Plants of this family have been reported to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. The plant is indigenous to Indonesia , Thailand , China , India and Malaysia and is widely distributed in Chittagong , Comilla, Rangamati and Mymensing in Bangladesh .

     Curcuma xanthorrhiza has been used traditionally in Indonesia for food and medicinal purposes and in liver diseases. The fresh rhizomes have been used in Indonesian folk medicine as a stomachics, cholagogues, choleretics, emmenagogue in amenorrhoea, analgesic, carminative, anti-rheumatic and general tonic. In Malaysia , the dried rhizomes have been used in rheumatism, sexual neurasthenia, chest pain, fever, diarrhoea and inflammation and dried leaf has been used as laxative and tonic. In Thai traditional medicine, the plant has been used to treat inflammation. The rhizome has been used as an anti rheumatic in Chinese traditional medicine and as an emmenagogue in India .

Dosage: 2-3 capsules once daily, before bedtime.
